Patrice is part of a Burgundy family which founded Domaine Daniel Rion in 1955 with two hectares of vines in the coveted appellation of Vosne Romanée. Their entire production was sold to negociants until 1978 when Daniel brought his sons in to help run the business. This brought about a change in mindset to bottle their own wines, creating a deep following through the 80s and 90s, and allowed the domaine to expand to 50 acres in 20 appellations. In 1990 Patrice and his wife Michèle founded their own estate and a decade later Patrice had officially resigned from the family domaine, selling all his shares and focusing completely on six hectares all his own. Pure Chardonnay from Burgundy at this price is rare. The vineyard is in Nantoux, just west of Pommard, through a tight valley between the hills on the upper slope boundary of the Côte de Beaune. The grapes are hand harvested, the bunches are pressed whole, and the wine is matured in older oak barrels for 12 months before bottling. Pair with seared scallops, cream based dishes, and friends.
