In the 1960s Aubert de Villaine found himself heir to the most coveted domaine in Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanée Conti (DRC), but instead of settling in to the limelight of the most famous domaine in Burgundy he instead chose to move to New York and took up working for an American importer of Burgundy while writing articles about California wine.  In 1974 Aubert felt the pull of Burgundy and heeded the call of his birthright and became co-director of Domaine de la Romanée Conti, but not before settling down with his wife Pamela in the tiny, rarely spoken of village of Bouzeron.

Bouzeron at the time of Aubert’s arrival was a region that was out of the spotlight completely. This sleepy village in the Côte Chalonnaise was unrenowned and the perfect place for Aubert to settle down and build a winery that he could call his own. After many years of work on the vines, implementation of organic and biodynamic practices in the vineyard, and attention to detail in the cellar, Aubert began producing beautiful wines from this little known region. As a testament to Aubert’s belief in the area, Bouzeron was granted appellation status in 1997.

Aubert’s wines are a stunning example of how fantastic and approachable Burgundy can be even in its youth. Due to the very limited vineyard holdings and the high demand for wines of this pedigree we only receive very miniscule quantities each year.
