Kermit Lynch has been traveling to the Rhône for over 40 years. Harvests, cellar time, and dinners with winemakers impart knowledge not many people will then look to harness. Working alongside winemaker Jean-François Pasturel to build a unique Côtes du Rhône blend every year, at an amazing price level, Kermit delivers an extraordinary wine that represents a narrative of the region’s varieties. The 2015 blend is 62% Grenache, 16% Syrah, 14% Carignan, 6% Mourvèdre, 2% Cinsault, fermented by natural yeasts in temperature controlled cement cuves. Aging takes place in cement tanks and is never fined or filtered before bottling. Pair with duck, BBQ ribs, sausages, black bean chili, and Cantal cheese.
Label I.Q.: Terres d’Avignon was created in 2005 with an aim to produce top value wines from the outlying areas of Avignon in the Southern Rhône. This co-op contains about 260 members/growers that contribute grapes from over 700 hectares of vines (that’s about 1700 acres). Kermit and Jean-François work with select growers and blocks to build their blend every year. The blend changes minutely every year, within a few percentage points, attesting to their desire for bottling a wine that represents the region and the vintage.
