Etienne Sauzet spent the first half of the 20th century snatching up prime Chardonnay real estate in the Cote de Beaune.  By 1950, his vineyard holdings comprised 12 hectares in and around Puligny Montrachet, including small plots of each of the Grand Crus.
Following Etienne’s passing in 1975, it was his granddaughter Jeanine and her husband Gerard Boudot who have taken the estate to the next level.  Biodyanmic principles are implemented in the vineyards and the wines continue to rise in quality with the current generation.
The Sauzet style safeguards finesse above all but manages to generate tremendous texture and character through barrel fermentation and a very sophisticated lees aging regimen (part of Etienne’s old playbook).  The Grand Crus see 35% new oak on average, 30% and 20% for Premier Cru and village bottlings respectively.  Sauzet is bold and refined—a producer whose longevity in the cellar earns its reputation as one of the region’s best.
