Saint Just started as a father son project in 1996 with Yves and Arnaud Lambert. Yves passed away too soon in 2011 and Arnaud has taken up the project, now totaling over 95 acres and all completely 100% organic, with moves towards biodynamic certification coming soon. Exposure to Saint Just came from drinking the wines of Château de Brézé, which Yves and Arnaud took over farming and winemaking duties in 2009. By the 2012 vintage, the dedication to healthy soils and vines had completely transformed the wines, and the image of quality for the estate as a whole. It was a recognition of what could be accomplished when farming for vibrant, healthy vines becomes the main objective. The ‘Montée des Roches’ comes from 35 year old Cabernet Franc vines in the Saint Cyr en Bourg area of Saumur Champigny, east facing slopes of clay, silt, sand, and limestone bedrock. Pair with roast duck, mashed potatoes, sage, and shallots, or go for a venison burger like bison with feta and arugula.Label I.Q.: ‘Montée des Roches’ translates to ‘rise of rocks’ or ‘hill of rocks’.
