Dave Potter of Municipal Winemakers has started a new label named Potek. That name is drawn from the immigration story of his great grandfather arriving in the USA from Romania in 1917. Landing at Ellis Island, his given name of Berl Potek was changed to Benjamin Potter and he was quickly ushered into a challenging new environment to make a better life for himself and his children. The ‘Fox Family Vineyard’ is a small, organic vineyard in the hills of Los Olivos planted to Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, a small amount of Vermentino and farmed entirely by hand. The parcel is part of the Blair Fox Cellars family as their only estate vineyard and is planted on extreme hillsides with rocky, nutrient poor soils—perfect for quality grape growing. This 2013 Grenache includes 25% whole cluster fermentation and Dave only produced 50 cases, which is just two barrels.
