The Columbia Gorge AVA was designated
in 2003 and Brian McCormick planted vines that same year, releasing his first
vintage in 2006. This wine is a prime example of Cabernet Franc made in the
USA, but with a reflection of the classic style in Chinon and Bourgueil. The
organic ‘Idiot’s Grace Vineyard’ rises to 900 feet elevation and is located
along the Columbia River in Mosier, OR but the winery is up river a few miles
in Lyle, WA. Harvested October 5th and 9th and producing
400 cases, the wines are aged in neutral oak and stainless steel then bottled
unfined in November of 2015. Pair with black beluga lentils, thyme, eggplant,
and sunchokes, wild game hens, lamb gyros, and roasted pork tender.
Label I.Q.: Memaloose is named after a small
island located near the winery, a sacred Native American burial ground, first
documented during the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1806.
