At roughly 1800 cases this is a small, family-run
operation steadily catching fire in the States. More than six generations of
wisdom pour into winemaker Mario Fontana, who continues those family traditions
overseeing the entire cycle, from growing grapes and tending the vines, to
winemaking, bottling, maturation, and sales. The vineyards are situated on some
of the areas most favored crus in the communes of Castiglione Falletto
(Villero, Valletti, Pozzo), La Morra (Gallinotto) and Sinio (Vigna del
Castello). Such a simple quote but I love it… “My forefathers worked this land before me, and it is only thanks to
their efforts that I am able to make the wines that I produce today.”
Barbera is sourced from two sites mentioned above, Vigna del Castello and
Pozzo, both about 350 meters above sea level. Mario performs fermentation in
stainless steel followed by another eight months in steel before being
transferred to barrels with 5-6 vintages of use for 12 months of final rest
before bottling. 400 cases produced. Turn your pasta carbonara night into
