Certified organic by ECOCERT in 2009, the estate of Domaine de la Grand’Cour was founded in 1969, by Jean Dutraive, making it one of the oldest in the village of Fleurie. His son, a fifth generation vigneron named Jean-Louis joined his father in 1977 and by 1989 Jean-Louis was fully in charge of the family holdings.

The three vineyards that comprise their holdings in Fleurie are ‘Clos de la Grand’Cour’, ‘Chapelle des Bois’ and ‘Champagne’ making up 11.3 hectares total, all of which surround their home and cellar. They also own 1.6 hectares in the cru of Brouilly and all total their average vine age is between 40-50 years, with some vines celebrating their 70th year.

The ‘Champagne’ vineyard is 1.5 hectares with vines that average 70 years of age. Yields are very low and the wines spends 12 months in barrel before bottling, with about 25% new oak. It is a gently sloped vineyard, again with that pink granite, and this seems to be the wine we are asked about the most…along the lines of, “Do you got any left?"

When asked about his work in the cellar Jean-Louis has a motto, “minimal intervention and maximum surveillance.”
